Our interactions with one another are built on the grounds of how we appear to each other and although this may be symbolic of our role in the physical world, it is our morals and values that drive us as individuals. We all have objects in our lives that hold sentiment for us. Either gifts or souvenirs of memories, these objects ground us in who we are, where we’ve come from and what we want the world to see. The design Reliqua, derived from the word reliquary meaning container for relics, acts like a treasure box in which you can place these objects that centre you as an individual. Through a ritual of placing your objects within the landscape, Reliqua asks the viewer to reflect on themselves and undertake a process of sharing with others through storytelling. Reliqua is closed with a necklace that acts as a key to lock system and when it is opened the viewer is adorned with the necklace as a reminder of the contents. By creating Reliqua I hope to create a grounding for individuals in the physical world, a reminder of what makes them who they are.
