The number of elderly is predicted to increase to 2.1 billion by 2050, and for many, their preference is to age at home.
These elderly face many barriers: the shortage of professional caregivers, healthcare pressures and absent families. Opportunities to respond to these issues include the Internet of Things that could connect them to services and society while at home.
This project discusses a robot service-system which supports sustainable home life for the elderly. While the research shows that maintaining health and socialised are difficult for the elderly living alone connected solutions are possible.
The final design has been validated for the needs and desires of the target audience. ‘Wello’ is designed to actively provide health maintaining strategy for the elderly. This intelligent robot connects IoT devices, for a smarter health solution to them. Designed as an ecosystem, it supports the elderly access to society, social media and public service.
