The Sensory Collection

A walk through a forest is invigorating and healing due to the constant interaction of all sense modalities. – Juhani Pallasmaa
Our urban lifestyle has gifted us the ability to live long, healthy, comfortable and fulfilling lives, however the often highly homogenised and desensitised aspects of this lifestyle, detached from natural stimuli, can bring forth high levels of stress and in severe cases induce mental disorders.
The Sensory Collection is a setting of sensorial furniture and lighting, designed to address the perceptual gap in people’s daily lives by creating a calming stress free space in the domestic environment that is rich in subtle transient sensory experiences. The collection draws on the sensorial qualities of the Australian rainforest which can help reduce the symptoms of stress, anxiety and related mental disorders.
Consisting of a light, a rug and a daybed, each piece of the collection engages the users senses in a unique way. The autonomous pendant lamp generates gently fluctuating patterns and colours of dappled light emulating the natural light as you walk through a rainforest, the rug creates an undulating surface and textures under your feet and the daybed links back to the forest trees with strong eucalypt smells and textured upholsteries. In this space people can find a place to pause their fast paced lives, a place to reconnect with their natural roots.
