Project Snow Eagle
The aim of this research project is to build a drone that is built for alpine search and rescue, and capable of carrying out search missions in the alpine context effectively.
Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) otherwise known as drones, have been trending significantly over the past decade with hype in the media surrounding its inventive use cases. The danger-free and risk-free capabilities are the major benefits to alpine search and rescue (alpineSAR).
With drone use in Australian alpineSAR yet to be proven, a range of design methodologies will be explored in order to develop a useful and practical solution. Qualitative interviews will bring about valuable research findings that will contribute towards the decision-making process of the proposal. Benchmark testing with electronics prototyping will allow for quick iterations to be tested with any failures being developed into successful outcomes.
It is anticipated that the drone along with its technologies will be able to play vital role in the search phase of alpine SAR.
