The World Solar Challenge is a worldwide event held in Australia where teams from various companies and universities design, and build a solar-powered vehicle to race from Darwin to Adelaide as efficiently as possible. Within the WSC event, there are three classes including Challenger Class, Cruiser and Adventurer.
The Cruiser class derives an event score from the time taken to complete the north-south continental traverse combined with a 20% contribution from the practicality and aesthetics of the vehicles. This class has been developed to promote Solar cars from science project to residential driveway.
My project is to capture global attention to the WSC event with an iconic Australian ute as a statement of Australian ingenuity and promote sustainable mobility for utility vehicles.
The design challenge of this project is to find a balanced compromise between the aerodynamics, efficiency engineering, practicality and styling within the WSC regulations to produce a vehicle of efficiency while capturing the soul and functional elegance of the Ute.
