Immersion explores restoration in the context of the modern home work environment, this project is a response to the consistent clutter and visual fatigue can build up in many high density inner city homes. Work in the modern setting is rapidly evolving, and the line between work and life is more blurred now than ever. Within the present-day social context, and noting the frequency of multi-purpose furniture within the home, daily endeavour seems to constantly manifest itself in the form of an unorganized workspace, which can lead to a build-up of angst and anxiety, quite often to the detriment of the job at hand. Visual disarray within a workspace can create an unproductive environment and replacing this visual pervasion with a balanced design was a key goal throughout this project.
Creating a restorative working environment, with the tranquillity of a natural vista became the fundamental objective of Immersion. The Immersion concept aspires to create an atmosphere wherein the user is able to function in a relaxed and efficient manner in an informal home work environment, relieved of visual and physical clutter while the product is or is not in dedicated task usage A combination of multi-functional storage and functional features creates the ability for the furniture to seamlessly flow between a work and domestic hub, while both the aesthetic and material inspiration for the design is drawn from restorative natural landscapes.
