Human Powered Machines for Small Farmers
The objective of ‘Human Powered Machines for Small Farmers’ was to ask the question ‘can a tool or machine be developed for the small farmer that reduces costs for the farmer and is inexpensive to manufacture’.
Utilising the information obtained, the objective was to design a new frame of mobile harvester in order to reduce the need for tractor use on small farms, which are not only expensive to run, but also can cause significant damage to the farming soil. The system utilizes a modular design, with customisable dimensioning and sizing, allowing it to meet the specific needs of each individual farmer, acting as a platform to reduce the labour intensities of harvesting.
The frame itself is constructed from square aluminium tubing, held together by nuts and bolts, eliminating the need for welding, reducing production costs and allowing for ease of assembly, disassembly and modulation. Overall, this allows for a product designed alongside farmers, for farmers, which easy to produce, affordable and reduces costs on the farm.
