For young people, a cancer diagnosis can lead to increased dependency on family members, which can create conflicts and struggles as they transition into independent adulthood. Dimple builds on young people’s emerging capacity of self-management, helping them learn to manage their time and handle treatment. It combines smart living services with sensory stimulus and aromatherapy to enhance and encourage treatment adherence and self-care practices.
Dimple acts as a stress-relieving aromatherapy diffuser. The user can be awoken with the sound of birds chirping and the smell of fresh pine. At night, Dimple’s warm light can guide the user through a breathing exercise to ease their rest. Coloured light reminders prompt the user to complete their care tasks and acknowledge them with a press of the Dimple.
Users can use Dimple’s app to customise what care reminders matter to them. Care tasks can be tracked, and progress can be visualised to be shared with carers. This capability creates an opportunity to build trust in their relationship and enhance their freedom to be independent.
