Design Out Diesel
With the rise in global warming, it’s essential for people to move away from the reliance on fossil fuels to viable alternatives. Farming has been around for decades however the development of manual farming tools has ceased in favour of fossil fuel driven technologies. This project investigates the way farms operate and determine what tasks can re-designed to reduce the use of fossil fuels.
I have focused on fencing, as this is a labour intensive and critical task in modern farming regardless of scale. My Project supports the construction or replacement of a fence post without requiring a tractor to drive an auger. The design attempts to create a fencing solution that requires shallower holes that can be dug using an electric drill or by hand.
This design allows the farmer to conveniently replace a fence post without requiring re-drilling a hole as the plug acts as a permanent hole which holds the fence post, reducing the need for fossil fuels in fencing from construction and maintenance.
